Exploring the "5+3" Medical Talents Training Mode

"Last year, we recruited nearly 60 graduate students, basically in life sciences and basic medical research." Bao Xinhe said that China University of Science and Technology is one of the 20 universities recognized by the Ministry of Education that can set up their own specialties. This year, it plans to explore the establishment of a new clinical medicine specialty in the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine.

"This year, we hope to set up a postgraduate major in clinical medicine. Recently, we have been promoting this matter, and the Ministry of Education attaches great importance to it. We have also declared the direction of undergraduate clinical medicine. " Bao Xinhe said.

If clinical medicine is added this year, will the enrollment scale be expanded? Bao Xinhe said that University of Science and Technology China has always adhered to the excellent school-running route, and the overall enrollment scale of both undergraduate and graduate students will not be very large.

Bao Xinhe revealed that the training of top-notch innovative medical talents is being accelerated. On the basis of "China University of Science and Technology and Peking Union Medical College Biomedical Interdisciplinary Talents Training PhDPro?gram", China University of Science and Technology and Peking Union Medical College signed a cooperation agreement on innovative medical talents training, drawing on international medical talents training experience, following the laws of medical education and medical talents training, and reflecting the requirements of medical education for talents with multidisciplinary education background.

It is understood that last year, China University of Science and Technology set up a medical talent class for freshmen and sophomores. After interview and selection, 21 students from School of Life Sciences, Junior College and School of Chemistry and Materials were selected.

"We are making some reforms and exploring the 5+3 talent training model." Bao Xinhe said that in this "5", students are actually required to study basic subjects for three years at the undergraduate level, then study medical knowledge for two years, and then study medical knowledge for three years at the postgraduate level. "This forms a’ 3+2+3′ model."

The first phase of high-tech park is expected to be capped in September.

Last September, the foundation stone laying ceremony was held in the High-tech Park of China University of Science and Technology. It is reported that the high-tech park of the school is adjacent to the Advanced Technology Research Institute of China University of Science and Technology in the north, the Institute of Quantum Information and Quantum Science and Technology Innovation of Chinese Academy of Sciences in the west, and the National Laboratory of Quantum Information (under construction) is a complete innovation subject. Both of them are planned synchronously. After completion, they will form an innovative closed loop of talent training, scientific and technological innovation and achievement transfer with the Institute of Advanced Technology of China University of Science and Technology, and become an important part of Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center.

"HKUST’s existing campus in Hefei City covers an area of about 1,800 mu. As a new campus of HKUST, the planned total land for high-tech parks is more than 1,500 mu. The master plan is expected to be delivered by the end of next year. After the completion of the (high-tech park), we will make some adjustments to the functions of the school park. " Bao Xinhe said that the East Campus of University of Science and Technology China mainly focuses on the training of science talents, while the West Campus mainly focuses on the education of basic disciplines such as engineering and medicine. In the future, High-tech Park will focus more on new engineering and high-tech development, which also matches the development orientation of Hefei High-tech Zone.

Building a nationwide scientific and technological innovation system

Innovation is the gene of China University of Science and Technology. Bao Xinhe said that from the end of December last year to February this year, China University of Science and Technology has published five articles in top journals such as Nature》《Science and Cell. The recent work covers quantum science, chemistry, ground and air, medicine and so on, which also reflects the strong vitality of the school in many fields of original basic research."

"At last year’s People’s Congress, I proposed to build a transformation system for scientific and technological achievements in Anhui. In one year, we have gradually established such a transformation system for scientific and technological achievements in several cities in the province, such as Wuhu, Bengbu, Fuyang and Tongling." Bao Xinhe told reporters that China University of Science and Technology will build some scientific and technological achievements transformation centers in these cities, and send researchers, hoping to deliver the good scientific research achievements not only to China University of Science and Technology, but also to alumni of Chinese Academy of Sciences and China University of Science and Technology directly to users. Our goal is to build a scientific and technological innovation system based in Hefei, covering Anhui and facing the whole country, relying on the Advanced Research Institute of the University of Science and Technology of China. "In fact, it is to send our scientific research results directly to places where there is a demand for local science and technology, and at the same time, cities will also participate in the construction of our center to jointly build such an institution for the transfer and transformation of achievements."

It is suggested that a national science and technology ethics committee be established.

As an educational researcher, Bao Xinhe has always been very concerned about the construction of scientific and technological ethics in China. "In fact, I have proposed the" Proposal on Establishing a National Ethics Committee for Science and Technology "for two years, and it will be the third year to mention it at this year’s meeting." Bao Xinhe said that in the past, people may not pay much attention to the ethics of science and technology, but last year, there were some things about the ethics of science and technology. He obviously felt that people’s awareness of the ethics of science and technology was increasing, and their opinions and feedback on the suggestions were also very specific.

"There are a lot of uncertainties in the development of high technology now, which will also bring a lot of uncertainties to the future development of society. What kind of attitude to treat these uncertain scientific research involves the issue of scientific ethics." Bao Xinhe said that both the national level and researchers should seriously consider this issue, "including the design of scientific and technological programs and the determination of scientific and technological goals, we should also consider scientific ethics".
