During the long historical changes, rowing has a long history with the city of Shanghai. It entered China from Shanghai and flourished in Shanghai.

In 1852, the first rowing meeting in the history of China was held on the Huangpu River. In 1863, the "Shanghai Rowing Association" was established; In 1956, Shanghai selected more than 30 athletes from all over the city to train in the rowing club, which was the first batch of rowers in Shanghai and the earliest pioneer of rowing in New China.

At the just-concluded Tokyo Olympic Games, China won the gold medal in the women’s quadruple sculls event, including two Shanghai athletes …

Now, on the Suzhou River, the mother river of Shanghai, rowing and the city will usher in a cross-century "date".

From October 23rd to 24th this year, 2021 Haitai Real Estate Shanghai Rowing Open will be held in Suzhou River (Changshou Road and Bridge to Waibaidu Bridge, involving Huangpu, Hongkou and Jing ‘an). This is a self-owned brand event that highlights the city’s connotation and characteristics in accordance with the development plan of "One River, One River" and focusing on building Shanghai into an international sports event capital.

Looking around the world, every famous sports city has traditional sports events that conform to the characteristics of the city, including rowing, such as the "Henry Cup" royal rowing competition on the Thames in England, and the Charles River rowing competition in Boston, USA.

As the birthplace of rowing in China, holding high-quality rowing events on the Mother River in Shanghai will fully demonstrate the perfect combination of rowing with nature and the city, and for Shanghai, which already has many top international events, it will also make up for the blank of water events.

It can be predicted that with the success of the Shanghai Rowing Open, "getting on the boat" will complement the "getting on the horse" that leads the urban road running culture and become a new "business card" for urban sports.
