The preparation for the postgraduate entrance examination is getting longer and longer. Is the junior internship more and more "water injection"?
At the beginning of the new semester, Jay Song, a senior, finally handed in the "internship certificate" required by the college.
In order to free up the "golden review period" for the summer postgraduate entrance examination, this girl majoring in journalism in a key university in Wuhan entrusted someone to contact a newspaper in Chengdu as early as the beginning of this year. She worked as an intern for one month in winter and summer, but issued a three-month summer internship certificate, so as to meet the requirements for summer internship in junior year stipulated by the college and get eight internship credits necessary for graduation.
Time is tight and tasks are heavy. Even during the one-month internship in the summer vacation, Jay Song still finds time to review every day. "I usually wear headphones to study online classes on my way to and from work, and review at home all day on weekends when I don’t work overtime."
The embarrassment caused by the time conflict between the postgraduate entrance examination review and graduation practice not only troubled Jay Song. She was concerned that some students had anonymously reflected it in the grade QQ group, "but in the end it just went away."
For junior students, big practice is an indispensable part of university education. However, with the rapid growth of the postgraduate entrance examination army and the continuous extension of the postgraduate entrance examination front in recent years, many students are faced with a series of problems in this important "internship class", such as the conflict between preparation time and internship, the difficulty in finding professional positions, and the little gain from short-term internship.
The dilemma of "summer time"
Yang Xin, a senior majoring in network and new media in a 211 university in Wuhan, clearly remembers that before the start of the new semester, the counselors had counted their graduation intentions: among the 129 graduates of the college, 79 students chose to "take postgraduate courses, take postgraduate courses or go abroad for postgraduate studies", accounting for 61.3%, and "in some classes, only single digits chose direct employment".
The situation of Yang Xin’s class is only a microcosm of the postgraduate entrance examination army in recent years.
According to the news from the 2019 National Postgraduate Entrance Examination Security Video Conference, the number of candidates for the research and recruitment examination increased sharply again in 2019, and the number of candidates nationwide reached 2.9 million, an increase of 520,000 over last year, with an increase of 21.8%.
Accompanied by this, in order to win in the fierce competition, the front line of college students’ postgraduate entrance examination is constantly stretched in the struggle.
Zhang Jin, a senior student at Hubei University, told the reporter of China Youth Daily and China Youth Network that more than 40 of the 51 students in her statistics major were interested in taking the postgraduate entrance examination. In the past, the seniors and sisters all reviewed for three months to six months. "Now everyone is rushing, and many students began to review for the exam in the first half of the year or even before the New Year."
What is born from this is that in the year-long preparation for the postgraduate entrance examination, fresh candidates often face the dilemma of practicing and reviewing in the summer of their junior year.
This summer vacation, Yang Jiang, a junior majoring in civil engineering management at Wuhan University of Technology, chose to take the postgraduate entrance examination while practicing. Because I didn’t intend to have it both ways from the beginning, the internship didn’t delay his review. He thinks, "as long as you get internship credits."
He had a 20-day internship in a construction company in Jiangsu. This graduation "production practice" accounted for 4 credits, which was originally arranged in September, and was temporarily advanced to the summer vacation because of the time change of the teachers led by the college.
Yang Jiang said that the conflicts faced by other professional students are more serious. It is normal for interns to study for the exam in a "busy" way during their internship. "But so far, I haven’t heard of anyone giving up the postgraduate entrance examination because of their internship."
This summer vacation, Xu Miao, a junior majoring in biotechnology in Hubei University, entered a biological enterprise in Wuhan Optics Valley as an internship under the arrangement of the college. In the professional training program issued by the school to Xu Miao, it is required to "graduate production internship" for at least 8 weeks before getting 4 internship credits.
Despite the conflict between internship and review preparation, Xu Miao feels that the purpose of both postgraduate entrance examination and internship is to improve themselves, and there should be no complaints because of time conflicts.
In this ever-expanding front of postgraduate entrance examination, the summer vacation, which has no academic pressure and concentrated time, has become a "golden review period" for many junior students. It is also their choice to use the summer vacation to sign up for postgraduate entrance examination remedial classes and win more advantages in preparing for the exam.
This summer vacation, with the help of a friend, Yang Qing successfully found an internship unit with his pre-written "internship appraisal" and stamped it with "three-month internship period and internship experience".
In order to make good use of this time, she spent 5,300 yuan on the online tutoring class for the postgraduate entrance examination. "There are 143 class hours, and there are two live webcasts every week. During the holidays, you can also review other postgraduate courses. "
The person in charge of a large postgraduate counseling institution in Wuhan told the reporter of China Youth Daily and China Youth Network that in the summer of 2018, only 200 people participated in the institution’s "Summer Teacher Training Camp", and this year, the number of students who signed up for summer postgraduate training counseling increased to 700. "More than tripled, with ‘ Postgraduate entrance examination craze ’ The coming of is very related. "
"Water injection practice" has become a helpless choice
Under the traditional curriculum arrangement, it is generally difficult for college students to spare a large period of complete internship time in the academic year, and summer vacation inevitably becomes a common time for graduation internship. As an important part of practical teaching in higher education in the past, internship plays an important role in guiding college students to know the society, get familiar with their work and then plan their lives.
However, in the postgraduate entrance examination environment in last stand, the golden review period of summer vacation should not be missed. Therefore, "water injection practice" has become a helpless choice for many college students like Jay Song.
"If you want to experience it in depth, the internship time is at least 3 months to follow up the whole process of a task from construction to molding." In July this year, Liu Yan, a 2016 student from the College of Literature of Wuhan University, entered a company in Macau for an internship for one month through the introduction of relatives and friends. "Because of the short internship time, the instructor did not arrange for me to follow up for a long time."
Not long ago, Wenjing, a 2016 normal student majoring in normal education in a university in Hubei Province, just finished her internship in a middle school in Chongqing. She introduced, "If you want to prepare a class, you have to pass the course review of the instructor before you have the opportunity to teach on stage. This process basically takes two weeks, and in just one month’s internship, this kind of exercise opportunity is rare. "
The embarrassing situation of junior internship has also brought a big impact to the internship management in colleges and universities.
A counselor of a university directly under the Ministry of Education in Wuhan said that the current management system of graduation internship is too chaotic. Every year, students entrust people to contact internship companies and stamp them as "going through the motions". "Even some students have never been to an internship unit for a day, but the internship certificates they hand in are full of three months’ work experience".
Last summer, Li Kang, a graduate majoring in electronic information from a normal college in eastern Hubei Province, suffered an internship that "the donkey’s lips are not right for the horse’s mouth".
Initially, the college approved that students who are preparing for the postgraduate entrance examination can postpone their professional practice in the summer of their junior year until January after the initial examination of the postgraduate entrance examination.
However, when the winter vacation came, the college suddenly informed that the counterpart communication enterprises that had been discussed originally thought that the internship time in the winter vacation was too short and were unwilling to accept Li Kang’s students who had postponed their internships.
In order to enable students to successfully get "internship credits" and complete internship tasks, the college temporarily contacted a local air-conditioning factory in Huanggang, and arranged more than 70 telecom students in the factory assembly line to be responsible for nitrogen charging of air conditioners.
"After all, it is only a short-term internship. The unit basically doesn’t care about us, and the teacher only cares about our attendance." Because I have to work from 6 am to 9 pm every day and often work overtime, in less than a week, Li Kang left the "professional internship" unit arranged by the college with other students who are preparing for the postgraduate entrance examination.
Subsequently, Li Kang took a paid part-time job in a chicken chop shop for 40 days, and passed the graduation internship credit certification of the college with the part-time job certificate stamped with the official seal of "Wuhan Branch of Chicken Chop".
"Because the college failed to find a suitable internship unit for us, in order to complete the internship task, the teachers can only turn a blind eye in the end." He said.
In order to prepare for the exam, Li Ming, a senior student in a normal university in Wuhan, enrolled in a year-round postgraduate remedial class as early as March this year, and took professional classes every two weeks. The time for reviewing for the postgraduate entrance examination is short, and she spent the whole summer vacation reviewing at school.
Li Ming mentioned that a few years ago, the school made a rule that students who were preparing for the postgraduate entrance examination did not have to participate in internships. However, in the past two years, the school requires all senior students to have compulsory internships, or to concentrate on them according to the unified arrangement of the school, or to contact their own units for decentralized internships. "Graduation internship accounts for two credits, and you must also complete two months of internship in public middle schools from October to December of that year."
"The two-month internship period required by the school is a critical moment for review." Li Ming, who was busy reviewing for the exam, had to find a good middle school through his family in advance and issue a two-month internship certificate for the teacher to check.
New model of junior internship expectation
A few days ago, Hubei school media randomly conducted a questionnaire survey for 100 college students in some colleges and universities in Hubei. Among the 50 students who chose to take the postgraduate entrance examination, 36% of them chose to take the postgraduate entrance examination while reviewing, while 34% of them said they would directly "find a relationship to solve the internship certificate".
According to Xiong Bingqi, vice president of 21st Century Education Research Institute, the phenomenon that junior internship has become a "chicken rib" in recent years is reasonable. One of the important reasons behind the contradiction of internship for junior students is the current domestic postgraduate examination system.
"To solve the dilemma of college students’ internship, it is better to block it. First of all, we should improve the domestic postgraduate enrollment system, promote the postgraduate application review system, improve the teaching quality of undergraduate education in colleges and universities, and then change the students ‘ Utilitarianism ’ The attitude of studying. " He said that colleges and universities should pay more attention to the quality of undergraduate talent training and guide students to improve their understanding of the importance of internship.
How to optimize the current practice teaching of college students? Xiong Bingqi suggested that colleges and universities should attach importance to the cultivation of students’ practical ability in each course, establish practice bases for each major, increase the proportion of practical teaching in each course, and let students carry out more professional experiments and field investigations in classroom learning, conduct case analysis teaching, and strictly certify each link.
At the same time, schools and enterprises should break the "fence" of cooperation, expand internship resources, establish an internship platform shared by enterprises in colleges and universities, and sort out all kinds of practical internships in combination with the needs of enterprises. Starting from the quality of personnel training, let college students return to the "standard" of practical teaching and improve their practical ability.
Li Muzhou, deputy dean of the School of Education of Hubei University, put forward: "Let enterprises realize the importance of talent training, open up more internship space, and build a special internship base under the leadership of the school." He suggested implementing the dual tutorial system between school and enterprise to guide students to understand the value of internship, and at the same time, strengthen the follow-up guidance to students in the process of internship to ensure the quality of work and the effect of internship.
At the same time, he also mentioned that "internship is to train students. In the face of new changes in the times, the school has the responsibility to provide more personalized internship programs. On the basis of respecting students’ professional and personal development wishes, we can optimize the training scheme and internship curriculum system, and formulate different internship schemes for students who take the postgraduate entrance examination and obtain employment. Flexible arrangement of internship time allows students to have greater autonomy and selectivity and achieve a virtuous circle. "
